The Literacy Council of Seattle is thrilled to announce that we are the recipients of a Seattle Met magazine’s Light a Fire Award 2012. The awards are given to individuals and organizations that “make Seattle a better place to live, learn and grow.” With 350 nominations, the nominees were judged on community impact and effectiveness in meeting the challenges of their mission. The Literacy Council is proud to have won the “Most with the Least” category, recognizing our tremendous ability in serving 300 – 400 students a year with a budget of less than $40,000. This astonishing work is done through one half-time staff member and the contributions of volunteers and donors, such as yourself.
So pat yourselves on the back, pick up the November 2012 copy of Seattle Met, and read all about us!
As we progress, we hope to see your continual support in our vital work in community literacy by donating and volunteering. Want to learn more? Read who we are and check out our Facebook page www.facebook.com/LiteracySeattle.
